Dr. Kian graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from Southwestern University. While there, he performed research on various microorganisms affecting humans, and had a leadership role in student government, including Student Senate and Student Union Presidencies.

Following his undergraduate studies, Dr. Kian was employed as a chemist with a major pharmaceutical company involved in the development and production of analgesics. He then completed his medical education at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, where he graduated with honors and was involved in teaching other medical students and in preparing lecture material for professors. During this time, he did research on the effects of fungal organisms on the cornea, which was presented at major scientific conferences and published.

Dr Kian spent his internship at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas. He then completed his Ophthamology training at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he helped care for patients referred from throughout Louisiana, as well as Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi. There, he developed a special interest and expertise in the fields of glaucoma and refractive surgery, in addition to the general practice of Ophthalmology. He also did research on corneal topography and its role in refractive surgery. Since then, he has attended several major courses and seminars in continuing medical education in the fields of laser and refractive surgery.

Dr. Kian is a fellow of The American Academy of Ophthalmology, The American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and The American Medical Association. Having been in the Valley since 1994, he is proud to have established the Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona in 1997 and the state-of-the-art outpatient surgical facilities at The Advanced Laser and Surgicenter of Arizona in 2003 to better serve his patients in the Valley.
